The name of this course is Taking a Constructivist Approach to Teaching. My name is Professor Michael Gill. We will use this class page as an instructional guide to assist us construct knowledge and develop skills/strategies to assist students achieve success.
Course Work for the week of October 17
1. Read the article "The Strive of It" below in course materials. What does the article speak to in terms of constructivism, relationships, responsive teaching? Cite some practical examples you can share with students. Write a one page analysis.
2. Read your assigned chapter. Use post it notes to make connections. After reading, what teaching principles can you abstract from the reading. Write down three to five big ideas and be prepared to share with colleagues at our next class.
Course Work for the week of October 24 1. Read the article titled "Marzano - Vocabulary" under the course materials below. Choose a vocabulary word from one of your students' units of study. Apply the six step vocabulary process to that word. Create a model that you will demonstrate for students. In writing, describe how you and students would utilize the vocabulary process. The narrative, analysis and reflection should not be longer than 2 typed pages. 2.Read the Gladwell article at the link "Practice Perfect." Make 3-5 connections to ideas discussed in class such as constructivism, metability, innovation, cognitive structures, etc. Be prepared to discuss in class on Thursday, October 29th.
